Worst Things About Rouen

Best Things About Rouen

  • Lots of students
  • Very lively
  • Beautiful architecture and a vibrant history
  • Close proximity to Paris and many other towns
  • Easy to navigate
  • The weather
  • Rive Gauche can feel a bit dangerous, especially at night  (note: always be aware of yourself and your surroundings, no matter where you are).

Pro-Tips from Past + Current Teaching Assistants

  • Rouen is one of the oldest cities in France - full of medieval charm and the nicest people. It's great because it's close to Paris and the ferry to England!
  • Definitely save a comfortable amount of money before arriving in France (whatever you THINK you might need, save more!!)
  • Travel every weekend you can as Rouen is very convenient to travel into and out of.
  • It can be really, really difficult to live here in the winter when it rains a lot, if you're not accustomed to it.
  • Don't allow yourself to become a hermit! Go out, do new things, meet new people, regardless of the weather. And above all, really take advantage of those plentiful vacations to go and search out the sun elsewhere!
  • Buy a good coat and some waterproof boots you can stomp around in.
  • Be prepared for less people to speak English to you in this region.
